JOB SUMMARY
The Scale Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of computer-based control systems used in grain handling, including loading grain from storage to rail and monitoring facility activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining accuracy, safety, and efficiency in daily operations, while also supporting mobile equipment use, housekeeping, and maintenance tasks.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and monitor computer-based control systems to ensure accurate and efficient grain loading.
- Issue scale tickets and other required documentation.
- Record and maintain daily scale logs in both physical and digital formats.
- Verify vehicle and cargo details against shipping instructions and company records.
- Communicate with stevedores, port staff, and security to coordinate cargo
flows.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding weights and measures.
- Monitor weighbridge equipment functionality and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Assist in cargo reconciliation and reporting for compliance, and internal auditing purposes.
- Support the loading of grain from storage to railcars.
- Support the loading and unloading of grain between vessels, warehouses, and other storage facilities.
- Operate mobile equipment as required (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers).
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Conduct daily cleaning and housekeeping to maintain a safe and organized worksite.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn and operate computerized control systems (mandatory).
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience operating mobile equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers).
- Experience in the grain handling or agriculture industry.
- Experience with railways or railcar loading.
- Previous work in a port, terminal, or industrial facility environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to wear required PPE and safely navigate an industrial facility.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Requires frequent climbing of ladders, working at significant heights, and performing tasks in confined spaces.
