JOB SUMMARY
The Facility Operator will support the safe and efficient operation of port activities, including grain handling, equipment operation, and housekeeping. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and reliability in a fast-paced environment.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily housekeeping and cleaning, including grain spillage removal, dust control, and maintaining safe walkways and work areas.
- Operate mobile equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers) as required and if licensed.
- Support grain loading/unloading between vessels, warehouses, silos, and railcars.
- Monitor equipment condition, perform basic checks, and promptly report issues to supervisors.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks and ensure proper use of tools and machinery.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (including OSHA, ISPS, and grain handling standards).
- Support other facility operations as directed by supervisors.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong commitment to cleanliness, housekeeping, and safe work practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn basic equipment troubleshooting.
- Ability to operate (or learn to operate) mobile equipment such as loaders, forklifts, or skid steers.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical capability to perform manual labor, climb ladders, and work in outdoor conditions (heat, cold, dust, confined spaces).
- Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks and priorities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience operating mobile equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers).
- Experience in the grain handling or agriculture industry.
- Experience with railways or railcar loading.
- Previous work in a port, terminal, or industrial facility environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to wear required PPE and safely navigate an industrial facility.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Requires frequent climbing of ladders, working at significant heights, and performing tasks in confined spaces.
